Back to EpisodesSportsBeat KC: Dropping hints about Chiefs’ draft with Veach, then team drops a trade bomb
Description
No wonder the Chiefs’ media opportunity with general manager Brett Veach was delayed several times.
On Friday, about 90 minutes after Veach spoke in generalities about the NFL Draft, work got out that the Chiefs had acquired offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for their first-round draft pick, No. 31 overall. Several other draft picks were involved.
It’s a wonder Veach didn’t let out a chuckle during the interview. It’s a huge move for the Chiefs. Left tackle was the priority since the team released Eric Fisher, whose absence form the Super Bowl was painfully felt by the Chiefs in their loss to Tampa Bay.
Veach talks more than tackle here. You’ll hear what he says about drafting a wide receiver and singling out Byron Pringle as someone they’ll count on next year. Also discussed: the prospect of trading up, one position the team isn’t scouting, and the unique draft challenges created by the pandemic.
Not discussed: The impending trade for Orlando Brown.
