Machiavellianism is characterised by being manipulative, duplicitous and having a willingness to deceive and exploit others for personal gain. The word comes from Italian philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, who wrote the 'The Prince' in the 1500s, which encourages “the end justifies the means” behaviour. Someone who is machiavellian is cunning, sneaky and lacks a moral code.

This podcast looks at Machiavellianism in the context of The Dark Tetrad, which also consists of psychopathy, narcissism and sadism, outlining the nature of Machiavellian behaviour in the context of the other three also co occuring.
