Description

Hello, and welcome to Your Greek Word On A Sunday, a weekly, bite-size podcast for anyone curious on language, etymology and connections. I am your host, Emmanuela Lia and wherever you are in the world, if you want to entertain your brain for a few minutes, this is the podcast for you. Let's Go!

Γίγνομαι (gignome)in Ancient Greek and γίνομαι (ginome) in modern, means ‘I come into being ,I become’ From that, come the nouns γένος (genos) meaning ‘race’ and γέννηση (gennisi) meaning ‘birth’. The collective name for people born within a specific timeline is called γενεά (genea). The word might have came to the English through the Latin generare but the meaning stayed intact.
