🔵 Bitcoin Miners Could Be Forced Out of Norway With Data Center Law

Norwegian lawmakers have passed a law requiring data centers to register with the government and report their ownership and services. The government aims to regulate the use of energy for crypto mining operations, with the intention of closing the door entirely on the industry. The new law is the first of its kind in Europe and aims to direct energy consumption towards “socially useful” services and infrastructure. Norway’s energy minister thinks Bitcoin miners cause large greenhouse gas emissions, and wants to push them out — but experts disagree on the evidence.
