Gratitude not Envy

Gratitude not Envy

Season 3 Episode 13

Send us a text

Envy blinds men and makes it impossible for them to think clearly.

Malcolm X

There is injustice in the world. There is inequality in the world. Not everyone starts with the same advantages. Nor is everyone given the same opportunities.

Nevertheless, we cannot allow injustice and inequality to twist who we are. We cannot allow our righteous indignation turn to rage. We cannot allow envy to blind  us to the possibilities and opportunities that are available. We must center ourselves in gratitude, hope, and trust.

Psalm 23 points the way for our lived response to circumstances of injustice and inequality. It boldly declares that, “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.” Even in the bleakest circumstances, we are trusting God to lead us through.

We start every day by being grateful for everything good thing we have. What ever portion of health and strength, we give thanks. For whatever food, clothing and shelter we have, we give thanks. For whatever love and kindness we experience, we give thanks.

Centered in gratitude, we are more attuned to opportunities that are available, and better able to make the most of them.

Peace be with you.
