Supernatural: Weekend at Bobby's (6x04) | Recap & Lore

Season 6 Episode 4 Published 2 years, 6 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 6, Episode 4, Weekend at Bobby's recap 🧢 For once, the story is all about Bobby (Jim Beaver), and we finally see what his life looks like while the Winchesters are calling him nonstop for help: torturing a demon (Sharon Taylor) in the basement, fending off a cobbler-wielding neighbor, and trying to get his soul back from Crowley (Mark Sheppard), on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. (Fun fact: this was Jensen Ackles' directorial debut, and the title is a nod to Weekend at Bernie's.)

Crowley has Bobby's soul, and Bobby has a plan to get it back. He breaks into a library, digs up a demon's bones, and goes deep into Crowley's past, where he learns something VERY interesting about the King of Hell. Meanwhile, Sam and Dean keep calling for help with their own case (and to complain about each other), Rufus (Steven Williams) shows up needing help burying a body, and the neighbor, Marcy (Jennifer Aspen), keeps popping by with baked goods. Bobby is juggling a LOT, and nobody's asking how he's doing.

Episode Highlights:

  • A crossroads demon hostess in that classic little black dress
  • Bobby torturing a demon with her own bones
  • Marcy, the sweet neighbor with an enormous cobbler
  • Crowley calling Sam Moose for the very first time (Mark Sheppard's idea)
  • Rufus to the rescue, but not before they bury an Okami
  • Sheriff Jody Mills with an assist when the law comes a knockin'
  • A big reveal about Crowley's past
  • Rufus swallowing a ring for safekeeping (good idea, Bobby!)
  • The wood chipper Marcy said was broken (it wasn't), and our 33rd and most drawn-out blood splooge
  • Bobby finally telling Dean how he really feels

In the lore segment, we dig into the monsters of the week: the Lamia of Greek mythology (the child-devouring queen who inspired John Keats' 1819 poem Lamia) and the Okami, the wolf spirit of Japanese folklore once worshipped as ÅŒkuchi-no-Makami, the true god with a big mouth, plus the real-life Japanese wolf, extinct for over a century. (And Berly's heroic attempt at the ancient Japanese place names.)

"Monsters lately... is it me or is it weird?" – Bobby Singer
