All over the Empire, children revealing Force-sensitivity are snatched up and delivered to Tantiss. With Nala Se's imprisonment, Hemlock reluctantly promotes Emerie Karr to her vacant position and familiarizes her with Project Necromancer.

Witnessing the callous brutality with which the children are treated, as specimens, Karr slowly becomes disillusioned with the Empire and the righteousness of her work.

Facing the cancellation of his project's fundings, Hemlock learns that his clone assassin from Teth has obtained intel on Phee, after interrogating Cid, and sends him after her.

The clone assassin infiltrates Phee's ship during a check-up and hacks her navigation computer, thus learning about Omega's whereabouts on Pabu.

Just as the Bad Batch prepares to leave the planet, the assassin arrives and confirms their presence, destroying the Marauder and calling in an Imperial strike team.

With their means of escape cut off, the rest of the Batch tries to evade their pursuers while Hunter leaves to steal a gunship. After Hunter fails, Omega decides to surrender herself, both to spare the people of Pabu and to enable the Batch to trace her to Tantiss.

Crosshair's attempt to plant a tracker fails, and the assassin leaves with Omega.
