Season 3 Episode 4
What does it mean to walk in the light?
We are encouraged to walk in the light, to be children of light. What does that mean? Practically speaking, what does that look like?
I’m drawn to these words from Micah for a description: “God has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Act justly. Larger society has shrunk the notion of justice down to punishing people after the fact for doing wrong. This notion of justice means seeking the wellbeing of others proactively. We also refrain from benefiting ourselves at the expense of others.
Being merciful means to live with a certain type of generosity: Assuming good will. Practicing empathy and understanding. Learning to forgive.
Walking humbly means that we do our best given what we know and believe, while simultaneously honoring people who do differently because they have different perspectives and experiences.
