Owning Our Own Shortcomings

For many of us, one of the most difficult things we can do is to acknowledge our own shortcomings and mistakes. Often we demand accountability from others while completely excusing ourselves from all responsibility or blame.

Owning our shortcomings is not about making ourselves feel guilty or ashamed. It’s definitely not about pointing out the shortcomings of our neighbors. Rather it’s about first identifying where we need to grown and improve and then developing and implementing a plan to reach our goals.

All of us are capable of growing into the best versions of ourselves. We begin by looking in the mirror.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - 1 John 1:8-9
