אחז"ל "כל אחד ואחד חייב לומר בשבילי נברא העולם". מובן, שאין הכוונה שענין זה יביא את האדם לידי גאוה, אלא לעורר אותו על גודל האחריות המוטלת עליו, בידעו שכל העולם כולו תלוי בהנהגתו! ובקשר לזה ישנו לימוד מהנהגת מרדכי המסופר במגילה "ומרדכי יושב בשער המלך" לכל אחד של "עם מרדכי" (ואפי' המן יודע שכל יהודי שייך ל"עם מרדכי"): (נוסף לזה שכל אחד יושב בשער "מלכו של עולם" ועליו לעשות את העולם דירה לו ית', ועד"ז בנוגע ל"מלכות" של ד' אמותיו בפרט, הנה) כאשר יהודי שנמצא בגלות מוצא את עצמו "יושב בשער המלך" (חלק בממשלת המדינה וכדומה) – ה"ז בהשגחה פרטית, והתכלית האמיתית בזה היא – שיפעול שם לטובת המדינה כולה. זה שמרדכי אמר לאסתר "ומי יודע אם לעת כזאת הגעת למלכות", שזה בספק – ה"ז בנוגע לזולת, אבל בנוגע לעצמו יודע בוודאות שעליו לנצל מעמדו לטובת כל בני המדינה. וזה זכותו!

Our Sages taught, “Every individual is obligated to say, ‘The world was created for me.’” Obviously, this isn’t something that’s supposed to make a person arrogant, but rather to awaken in a person the magnitude of the responsibility placed upon him, knowing that the entire world depends on his behavior. Relatedly, the Megillah relates how “Mordechai was sitting at the king’s gate”; this is a lesson for every Jew, all of whom are member of “Mordechai’s people”: when a Jew in exile finds himself “sitting at the king’s gate” (with influence on the government etc. – in addition to the fact that every Jew “sits at the gate” of the King of the universe, with the mission of making the world, and his own four cubits, a dwelling for Hashem) – it is by divine providence, and the true purpose is for him to benefit the entire country. When Mordechai said to Esther, “And who knows whether it was for a time like this that you attained royalty?,” his doubt concerned only her, but regarding himself, he knew with certainty that he had the obligation and merit to use his position for the benefit of the entire country.
