Supernatural: John Emmet Tracy (Mercury from Hammer of the Gods) | Interview

Season 5 Published 2 years, 7 months ago
Description

John Emmet Tracy interview 👟 Berly and LA sit down with John Emmet Tracy (JET to his friends), who played the Roman god Mercury in Supernatural's Hammer of the Gods, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. You may also know him as Ellis Steele on Yellowstone, or Enzo Lambert on iZombie.

Mercury was one of our favorite guest stars from the first five seasons, and JET did not disappoint: he's a lovely man with great stories, and he looks EXACTLY the same almost 20 years later. (He says he doesn't. We disagree.)

Interview Highlights:

  • How the gorgeous Elysian Fields Hotel was built on a soundstage
  • The little air cannon behind that blood splooge effect
  • Jensen improvising the Norman Bates line (it wasn't in the script)
  • McG flying up to set just to announce the season six pickup
  • Silent cheering on set, and Richard Speight Jr.'s antics in the Grand Ballroom
  • Divine: The Series, where you can see Misha Collins as a PRIEST (you're welcome)
  • The talk about bringing Mercury back alongside the Trickster
  • JET's secret return in a later season (you won't see his face, but you'll see the trench coat)
  • Why Mercury would fit right in with American Gods
  • Working with Taylor Sheridan on Yellowstone

We closed with one of Mercury's own lines:

"Of course I can. Someone's gotta get everything ready. They're coming. All of them. And we've got our part to play." – Mercury
