In this episode of Distory, we go off the rails as we explore the spectacular beginnings of Walt Disney World’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. From unbelievable vistas of an underdeveloped Frontierland to absurd mining jokes, we follow the early history of this iconic attraction through its opening day before heading to the beginning of the queue. From there, we have some fun unpacking even the smallest details of the outdoor queue area, including explaining how the set design illustrates the official backstory in ways you might not have noticed before. As we come around the bend toward the entrance, Kirk finds a way to trick Kate about a rusty bucket, Kate gets irritated at him for not listening, and we take an extended side trip to Joshua Hendy Iron Works to discover some men who helped shape the Disney parks as we know them.
