Season 2 Episode 22
"I am often struck by the
dangerous narcissism fostered by spiritual rhetoric that pays so much attention to individual self-improvement and so little to the practice of love within the context of community." - bell hooks
Today we couple this quote from bell hooks with Bishop Desmond Tutu’s description of Ubuntu: I am because we are.
The concept of being an individual is meaningless apart from the larger whole from which we are individuated.
That’s all just a fancy way of saying that we are all interdependent and interrelated. Our truest, fullest wellbeing is inextricably linked to the wellbeing of our brothers, sisters, siblings.
It is vital that we all have a healthy sense of self esteem, that we all practice self care. But true wellbeing and self care recognizes that this same level of attention and compassion must be shared as far and as wide as we can possibly reach.
