Living in the Pursue of Excellence “Being Confident of This Very Thing” Scripture Reference: Philippians 1:6-11 v.6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which had begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. • Confident – refers to assurance or a state of being certain, without doubt. • Begun – already started or initiated. • Good Work – performance, labor, or effort; also, it is the value, worth, or high quality of. • Will – refers to one’s determination, fortitude, resolve, or motivation. • Perform it – to do an action or activity that usually requires skills; to produce or yield results. Commentary: Paul had brought the gospel to Philippi. But he still realized that it was God’s work. He knew that God would continue providing his grace to the Christians at Philippi. What God has begun; He will complete. The day of Jesus Christ refers to the day He returns. When Paul thought of the beginning of God’s work among the Philippians, it was natural that he also thought of the day when that work would be completed. Paul also expressed his confidence in God’s ability to complete that work. This work in the believer will not be finally complete until the day of Christ’s return. The Word of God does not regard or view mankind as perfect in his present state.
