Description
The Circleville Letters were a series of anonymous letters sent to residents of Circleville, Ohio, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The letters instilled fear and chaos within the community, and despite various investigations and a criminal conviction, the true identity of the letter writer remains unknown.
The case stands as one of the most captivating unsolved mysteries in Ohio's history, highlighting the impact of anonymous letters and the harm they can inflict.

Background

The initial letter was addressed to Mary Gillispie, a school bus driver, in 1976. It accused her of engaging in an extramarital affair with the school superintendent. Mary refuted the claims and sought assistance from the authorities. Nevertheless, the letters persisted, targeting other Circleville residents, including Mary's husband, who was also accused of infidelity.
