Season 2 Episode 11
“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.” - Martin Luther
If one is even half way aware of what’s going on in the world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged. There are prophets of doom and gloom everywhere. I have no idea if gold is a good investment or not. But I do know that the idea that we all need to be hoarding gold in order to survive the impending collapse of the world as we know it - is a bankrupt idea.
The media both traditional and social makes money from engagement, from clicks and eyeballs. Collectively, we have stronger reactions to the negative. We engage the negative. So they feed us more and more negative information. This steady stream, this constant focus on the negative, starts to make us think that the world really is falling apart.
In the face of this negativity, we must have the stubborn resolve to do what we can do regardless. Even if we think the world is about to fall apart, let us plant the tree anyway.
I’m Horace McMillon. And this is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
