New President Appears in Rice
Do you remember the election last month?
Yeah. Taiwan's voters chose Lai Qing-te as the next president.
During the election, his face was everywhere.
There were huge ads in every city.
His face was on big buildings and billboards.
I even saw him on the side of a bus.
But now, his face has appeared in a much smaller place…
…carved into a grain of rice
What? You mean just one tiny grain of rice?
Yes. An artist carved it there with a little knife.
The artist is Chen Feng-xian (陳逢顯).
I know about him! All of his art is tiny.
His portrait (肖像) of Lai is only half a centimeter long.
The face is so small, you need a magnifying glass (放大鏡) to look at it.
Even though the work is so small, it took Chen three days to finish.
Why did Chen use a grain of rice?
He says rice is connected to the livelihood of the people.
Even though grains of rice are tiny, people depend on them to live.
Chen says he wanted his art to remind Lai of something important.
That is, our leaders need to remember the small things that make up our livelihood.
Where is the tiny portrait now?
It's on display at Chen's museum in New Taipei City.
His museum is filled with all kinds of tiny art he has made.
Some are made from a grain of sand (一粒沙).
Others are made from a sesame seed
Chen's latest work is a tiny golden dragon.
He made it to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
The dragon is also less than 1 centimeter long.
He says it's the smallest golden dragon in the world.
You can check out the dragon, Lai's portrait, and the other works at the Chen Feng-xian Museum in Xindian.

Global Heating Makes Goats Come Out at Night
How do you stay cool when the weather is hot?
When the sun is bright, at the hottest part of the day…
You can turn on the air conditioning (冷氣).
Or you can get some ice cream (冰淇淋).
But what about animals?
They don't have air conditioning or ice cream.
They have to find other ways to cool down (冷卻).
They may wait until night to come out, even if it's more dangerous for them.
That's what scientists from Italy have found out.
They discovered that as the climate gets warmer…
…mountain goats are changing to a nocturnal lifestyle.
They studied one kind of mountain goat called an Alpine ibex.
The Alpine ibex (高山野生山羊) is a powerful animal, with huge horns on its head.
Even though it's strong, the goat has a natural predator.
Wolves come out at night to hunt the goats.
That's why the Alpine ibex usually comes out to find food during the day, and hides during the night.
Scientists from the University of Sassari wanted to learn more about these goats.
The scientists put GPS collars on some wild goats.
That let them track the goat's activity.
The scientists were surprised by what they discovered.
On hot days, more goats were coming out at night…
…even in areas that have lots of wolves.
It's not safe for these mountain goats.
There is danger from the wolves.
And it's harder for the goats to climb in the mountains at night.
The scientists think the Alpine ibex is doing this to escape the heat of day (躲避白天的熱氣).
And as global heating increases, the days will just get hotter.
What's more, other animals may be doing the same thing.
Now scientists want to learn mo
