Lent Always Ends in Hope

Season 2 Episode 1

“Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.”  - Isaiah 58:12

It’s easy to become discouraged when we look at the state of the world. A mass shooting. A war where civilians caught in the crossfire face starvation and death. The exploitation of the poor and the utter neglect of those in need. Yes, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged.

As we begin the season, we confess the roles we have played in bringing about this state of affairs. We confess our individual and collective lack of effort at seeking remedy. We confess much of our religiosity and political rhetoric has been little more than symbolism.

Then we commit to doing the work of caring for the vulnerable, fighting injustice, and striving for a better world in any and every way we can. We proclaim that our efforts will not be in vain. The world as it should day one day will be.

We may begin with despair, but we always end in hope. Peace be with you.
