One man cannot hold another man down in the ditch without remaining down in the ditch with him.
I know it’s tempting. When someone has done us wrong, often our immediate impulse is to pay them back, give them a taste of their own medicine. Sometimes we want to make them feel what we they felt. But we can’t do that without getting down to their level.
I’m not qualified to speculate on the reasons people do what they do. Trauma? Low self esteem? Personally disorder? Maybe they’re just bad people. I don’t know the answer and I don’t have any solutions to their problems.
I do know that the answer isn’t to sink down to their level. Where they are is not where we want to be. Put as much time and distance between yourself and then as quickly as possible. Release your feelings of pain, anger and resentment. They do not serve you well.
You’ve got mountains to climb. Stay out of the ditches. Peace be with you.
