[המשך] כוונתי בהאמור היא לעורר את כל אלו שבידם לשנות את המצב. ענין זה, שלכל לראש צריכים ללמד את הילד עיקרי ויסודי היהדות – מופיע בקיצור שו"ע (ובכל ספר שיעיינו בו שמתחיל באות "אל"ף" – שמרמז על הנהגת יהודי באופן שמחבר אותו על ה' וכו'). לפעול ענין זה – הוא לא רק התפקיד של המלמדים בגן-ילדים אלא של כל המלמדים עד גם של כתות הגבוהות בישיבות הגדולות! כבר עבר הזמן שהמלמדים מרמים את עצמם...! ועוד ענין בקשר לזה: גם כאשר סדר הלימוד הוא באופן ד"יגדיל תורה ויאדיר" היו יכולים ללמוד ענינים הקשורים עם הלכה למעשה. אך בפועל נתמעט מאוד לימוד הלכות – לא יודעים אפי' מ"ש בקיצור שו"ע! מדגישים את אופן הלימוד ע"ד הפלפול וכו' וכשבא לידי פס"ד בפועל בהל' שבת, טהרת המשפחה, כשרות וכיו"ב – לא יודעים ונכשלים וכו', והיום דבר כזה שייך אפי' אצל ה"גדולים" בתורה! (Continued.) My point in the abovementioned is to rouse those who have the power to change the situation. The idea that the first priority is to teach children the principles and foundations of Judaism, appears in the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch (and every sefer begins with an Alef – which alludes to a Jew’s behavior in such a way that connects him to Hashem etc.). And this is not only the role of kindergarten teachers, but all teachers, including those of the higher grades in the yeshivos. The time of teachers deluding themselves has passed. Relatedly: even when Torah is studied “to make the Torah great and glorious,” they can choose topics involving practical halacha. But in practice, the study of halacha has been greatly neglected – people don’t even know what it says in the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. Instead, the emphasis is on pilpul etc., but when it comes to giving a practical ruling in the laws of Shabbos, taharas hamishpachah, kashrus, etc. – they don’t know the law and come to err etc.; today, this happens even with great scholars.
