hesitantdoodle (Sidney McLeod) is a non-binary illustrator and comic artist based just outside of Glasgow, Scotland. Their work combines the action of sports, the drama of romance novels, and the whimsy of magical girls to produce effervescent, queer, and colourful comics. They are the creator and co-producer of the web series Creating Comics UK and judged the LDComics Awards in 2021. Their goal is to engage a wide audience with their work and collaborate to create new and wonderful stories!

Today, illustrator hesitantdoodle shares the story of their journey from a young artist, to a grassroots illustrator just beginning, to where they find themself in their career now. Abbie and hesitantdoodle discuss art as a means of communication that goes beyond words; the invitation and possibility that the world of comic book illustration offers; and the resilience of art and artists. Abbie and hesitantdoodle explore what it means to value creativity, art, and imagination in a capitalist society that places more value on productivity, efficiency, and profit. hesitantdoodle explains the value of the CosmoTeenz Comic Book and advocates for “creating for the sake of creating.”
