Episode 361: Good Killing Slippers

Published 5 years ago
Description

Tom S, Graham and Marsh put on their luckiest killing slippers and put the shoe into JRPGs Dragon Quest XI and Bravely Default 2. Plus, recursive first-person puzzler Maquette, the valblue of subs, and a sorry end in the football cul-de-sac.

  • First person puzzler where things are big and small and you are in them and outside of them: Maquette.
  • First person puzzler where things can big and small depending on your perspective and it turns out there’s nothing terribly interesting about this: Superliminal
  • First person puzzler where the world repeats infinitely and this is continuously wondrous: Manifold Garden
  • First person puzzler Gold Standard: Portal
  • First person puzzler Portal follow-up that didn’t quite recapture the magic: Quantum Conundrum
  • First person puzzler where most of the puzzles are actually 2D, and it’s still brilliant:
    The Witness
  • Dragon Quest XI: “the most tired JRPG format you can imagine, rendered in 3D”. A #bathgame that isn’t worth the foamy peril.
  • The Room is a fab series of puzzle games, the latest of which features a doll house.
  • Bravely Default 2 sounds terrible too.
  • Fantasian is the name of Final Fantasy co-creater Hironobu Sakaguchi’s new mobile game.
  • Ni No Kuni has a good Welsh creature thing in it.
  • Hayao Miyazaki is really not a fan of machine learnt animation techniques.
  • Blazblue: the foulest word in any language. I’m not even going to put a link here, just out of spite.
  • Quintin Smith attempts to be a contender.
  • Tim Rogers’ review of Dragon Quest XI.
  • Quintin also explains Blaseball real good.
  • Here be Blaseball itself!
  • Civilization VI has been trickling out some cool extras across the course of the last year.
  • The recent FIFA lawsuit alleging that EA tipped the scales against good teams in order to get people to buy more loot boxes has been dropped.
  • No Stress Chess: it’s chess but your available moves are constrained by a deck of cards!
  • Crate & Crowbar’s miniature community has outgrown our Discord and moved to its own: Rollmodels! Lovely people!
