Rep. Richie Torres is proposing to expand the federal Gun Free School Zones Act's current 1,000-feet "gun free zone" around schools to 5,000-feet around every public, private, charter school and "early childhood education centers"; a move that could result in millions of lawful gun owners inadvertently breaking federal law and potentially serving years in prison for simply bearing arms in public.
