Season 1 Episode 27
Called to One Hope
“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;’ - Ephesians 4:4
The hope to which these words attributed to Paul calls us to aims to get us beyond our “us and them” mentality. Think about the many phrases embedded deeply in our consciousness: ‘We take care of our own.’, ‘Blood is thicker than water.’, ‘Country first’. And the like. Each of these calls us to be loyal to our subgroups even if it comes at the expense of the outsiders.
Paul came to realize is that we are one. We are not to divided. When he and the early Jesus followers were baptized the divisions of religion, class, and gender were erased. There was a unity in which everyone was invited to the table. Everyone got to eat. While not everyone had the same, no one had too much or too little.
This is a revolutionary vision for the world in which we live. It’s a vision that when realized will change everything. We are one and have been called to one hope.
Peace be with you.
