עה"פ [בראשון דפ' יתרו] "וישמע יתרו וגו'" מביא רש"י מארז"ל "מה שמועה שמע ובא – קי"ס ומלחמת עמלק". מבואר בחסידות ש"עמלק" בגימ' "ספק", והמלחמה נגד זה פועל שגם "כהן מדין" עוזב את כל אשר לו ובא ל"מדבר" וכו'. וההוראה: כאשר ליהודי נופלים ספיקות בעניני תומ"צ ואינו יכול לבטלם, עליו להסיח-דעת מזה ולא להיכנס לשקו"ט וכו', ולהחליט שעליו, שכל ענינו הוא "לשמש את קונו", אין לו זמן לזה! וזהו מ"ש "ויחלוש .. את עמלק וגו'": אפי' אם לא מבטלים את הספיקות, יש להחליש אותם – להתנתק מהם שלא יבלבלו אותו בעבודתו לבוראו. והנצחון הוא ע"י "אנשי משה" – אלו הקשורים לנשיא הדור! ועי"ז נפעל שגם ב"מדין" מכירים הנצחון על "עמלק" והולכים לקבלת התורה ונמשכות הברכות בגו"ר.

On the verse [at the beginning of Parashas Yisro] “Yisro heard, etc.,” Rashi cites the teaching of our Sages, “What news did he hear that [made such an impression that] he came? – The splitting of the Sea and the war with Amalek.” Chassidus explains that the Gematria of Amalek is safek (“doubt”); by fighting against doubts, we cause even the “priest of Midian” to leave everything he has and come to the “desert” etc. The lesson is that when a Jew encounters doubts in Torah and Mitzvos, and he finds himself unable to nullify them, he must ignore them and not engage in any debates with them etc.; rather, he must resolve that as one with a Divine mission, “created only to serve my Maker,” has no time for that! As the verse says, “And he weakened Amalek etc.” Even if one can’t nullify the doubts, he must weaken them –disengaging from them so they do not distract him from his service to his Creator. And the victory is achieved by the “Men of Moshe” – those who are connected to the Nasi of the generation! As a result, even those in “Midian” hear about and recognize the victory over “Amalek,” and go to receive the Torah, drawing down abundant physical and spiritual blessings.
