Episode Details

Supernatural Season 5, Episode 22, Swan Song recap 🦢 It's the season five finale, the ending Eric Kripke originally planned for the whole series, and Chuck (Rob Benedict) narrates the story of the one thing that's been with the Winchesters from the start: a 1967 Chevy Impala, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. We made it, hunters!

Sam has decided to say yes to Lucifer, and Dean reluctantly agrees to let him try. After collecting four gallons of demon blood and saying some heartbreaking goodbyes, the boys head to Detroit, where Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) is waiting. Meanwhile, Michael has his vessel, Adam (Jake Abel), and the brothers' final battle is set for Stull Cemetery, just outside Lawrence, Kansas. Chuck's typing away, and nothing about this ending is quite what anyone expected.

Episode Highlights:

• The army man in the ashtray, the Legos in the vents, and a montage of Baby's life that had us SOBBING
• Rob Benedict being a better fake typist than anyone
• Detroit, and Sam's big moment with Lucifer
• Lucifer, wearing Sam (Jared Padalecki playing the devil is terrifying)
• Dean's grand entrance to Def Leppard's Rock of Ages (it was no Death entrance, but he tried)
• Cas, a Molotov cocktail, and a now-iconic insult
• Our 31st blood splooge, the biggest of the series by far
• Chuck's mysterious exit (where did he GO?)

In the lore segment, we dig into the Archangel Michael and the war in heaven from Revelation 12: Michael and his angels battling the dragon, and the devil cast down to earth, filled with fury because he knows his time is short.

"No doubt, endings are hard. But then again, nothing ever really ends, does it?" – Chuck Shurley
