9:6 - Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:1-7)

Episode 9 Published 7 years, 4 months ago
Description

Names mean something, and usually the name you are called communicates something about the relationship between you and the person who calls you by that name (ex. Mr. so-and-so, title, first name, full name, nickname, daddy, etc.). The same is true for the names given to Jesus over 700 years before his birth. They are given by a prophet to a people who are about to be plunged into deep darkness because of their sin and unwillingness to trust the Lord. But "the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light... unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." These names are relational in nature, revealing who God is to and for his people in the promised child of Christmas, the Lord Jesus.

Jesus is uniquely qualified to be our Wonderful Counselor because he is God. Jesus is uniquely qualified to be our Wonderful Counselor because He is human. Trust Him. Accept His invitation. Listen to His Word and do what He says, knowing that He has already dealt with the problem that gives rise to every other problem in our lives and in this world through his life, death, and resurrection.
