Season 1 Episode 20
Stand Firm in Hope
“But Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see the deliverance that the Lord will accomplish for you today, for the Egyptians whom you see today you shall never see again.” - Exodus 14:13
This verse begins a six or seven verse sequence that informs can inform our response to difficulties and challenges. After 400 years of slavery in Egypt, the people of Israel had finally obtained their freedom and were on the way to some place else. They didn’t know where, but they knew it wasn’t slavery.
But problems arose, as they always do when one is in the process our transforming their life. The leadership of Egypt decided that it was too expensive to let the people of Israel go and sent what was then the most powerful army in the world to bring them back.
Moses’s first response should also be our first response in times of difficulties and crisis. He didn’t know how, but he did know who. He believed that some way, somehow, God would bring them through. He decided to stand firm in hope. And we should too.
Peace be with you.
