Supernatural: Hammer of the Gods (5x19) | Recap & Lore

Season 5 Episode 19 Published 2 years, 9 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 5, Episode 19, Hammer of the Gods recap ⛰️ Sam and Dean check into the gorgeous Elysian Fields Hotel in Muncie, Indiana, only to find it's hosting a summit of the world's pagan gods, and the Winchesters are on the menu, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Plus, the Trickster is back!

The boys detour off the highway into a hotel that seems too good to be true... because it is. Mercury (John Emmet Tracy of Yellowstone), Kali (Rekha Sharma of Yellowjackets), Ganesha, Baldur, Odin, Baron Samedi, and Zao Shen have gathered to figure out how to stop the Apocalypse, and they want to use the Winchesters as bargaining chips. Then a familiar face strolls in: the Trickster (Richard Speight Jr.), who has a history with Kali and some VERY divided loyalties. And just when it couldn't get worse, an uninvited guest crashes the party: Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino).

Episode Highlights:

  • The Elysian Fields Hotel (we'd book a weekend, minus the buffet)
  • A buffet of eyeballs and fingers (no thank you)
  • Mercury and Kali, a power couple of mischief and mayhem
  • The Trickster's grand entrance: Can't we all just get along?
  • Gabriel and Kali's history (we want MORE)
  • Lucifer crashing the party, and Mark Pellegrino being absolutely chilling
  • Three blood splooges (#26, #27, and #28), two of them courtesy of Lucifer
  • A very special Casa Erotica DVD (if you know, you know)
  • Pestilence (Matt Frewer, Trashcan Man from The Stand!) making the grossest entrance in Supernatural history

In the lore segment, we dig into every god at the table: Mercury, the Roman god of commerce who borrowed Hermes' winged sandals; Kali, the Hindu goddess of time and destruction; Ganesha, the elephant-headed remover of obstacles; Baldur, the Norse god undone by mistletoe; Odin; Baron Samedi, the Vodou loa of death; Zao Shen, the Chinese kitchen god; and Loki (we'll do a full deep dive... after season nine).

"Lucifer, you're my brother, and I love you. But you are a great big bag of dicks." – Gabriel
