The Hawks got the early lead on a lucky bounce ff a Sharks defenseman where Cole Guttman was credited with his 4th goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 until the 3rd period when former Hawk Ryan Carpenter tied the game. The game went to overtime where the Blackhawks couldn't take advantage of an early power play opportunity. Even overtime wasn't enough as the teams needed a shootout to declare a winner. It was a lengthy shootout, but in the end, the Hawks came out on top! in 9 rounds of the shootout, Mrazek allowed just 1 goal.
