גם בעודם במצרים עמדו בנ"י במעמד ומצב של חירות ו"ביד רמה", ולכן כאשר משה רבינו דיבר עם פרעה, הנה אף שידע שהוא המלך ועליו לכבדו, עד שזה הביאו להיות "בחרי אף" [כמ"ש ברביעי דפ' בא. עי' בפרש"י], בכל זאת תבע ממנו בתקיפות "ה' אלקי העברים שלחני אליך", "שלח את עמי ויעבדוני" – וזה פעל! וההוראה: גם בזמן שנמצאים בגלות, "כל המלכיות נק' ע"ש מצרים", ו"דינא דמלכותה דינא", הנה בכל הקשור לעניני יהדות, כמו "גבולות ארץ ישראל", יש לומר לגוי מיד בהתחלה בתקיפות של "גאון יעקב": "ה' אלקי העברים שלחני אליך" והתכלית היא ש"יעבדוני". ודוקא שיטה זו מצליחה! [משא"כ השיטה ד"פותחים על שני הסעיפים". וכמו שרואים שטענת אלי' הנביא לא היתה לאלו שעבדו את הבעל אלא "עד מתי אתם פותחים על שני הסעיפים"! (והטעם הפשוט לזה הוא כי אז משתכנעים שלא חוטאים ולא מתחרטים)].

Even while still in Egypt, the Jewish people experienced a state of freedom and triumph (“and they went out triumphantly”); therefore, when Moshe Rabbeinu spoke with Pharaoh, though he knew that Pharaoh was the king and that he had to show him respect (to the point that when he left after speaking with Pharaoh, it was “with burning anger,” as it says in revi’i of Parashas Bo; see Rashi) – he still demanded forcefully that “Hashem, the G-d of the Hebrews, sent me to you”, “Send out My people so that they may serve Me” – and it worked! The lesson is: Even when we are still in exile, “all kingdoms are called by the name Egypt,” and “the law of the land is the law” – nevertheless, when it comes to anything related to Yiddishkeit, such as the borders of Eretz Yisrael, when one talks to a non-Jew, he must begin by saying forcefully and with Jewish pride that “Hashem, the G-d of the Hebrews, sent me to you,” and the reason is “that they may serve Me”. It is precisely this approach that succeeds! [As opposed to the approach of “hopping between the two ideas.” As we see, Eliyahu Hanavi didn’t address those who unambiguously served the Baal, rather, he spoke to shoe who hopped back and forth, “Until when are you hopping between two ideas”! (The plain reason is because those who hop between the two ideas convince themselves that they aren’t really sinners, and therefore they don’t feel regret.)
