בשיעור היומי כותב הרמב"ם: "תלמיד שגלה לעיר מקלט מגלין רבו עמו שנאמר וחי עשה לו כדי שיחי', וחיי בעלי חכמה ומבקשי'ה בלא תלמוד תורה כמיתה חשובין". וההוראה: כללות ענין הגלות, ש"מפני חטאינו גלינו מארצנו", הוא ע"ד הגלות לעיר מקלט. ויש לדעת ש"וכל בניך לימודי ה'", שכאו"א מישראל (אפי' אם הוא "תלמיד שאינו הגון", אבל) הוא תלמידו של הקב"ה, ולכן כשיהודי נמצא בגלות הנה "מגלין רבו עמו", גם הקב"ה נמצא בגלות! כמארז"ל "בכל מקום שגלו שכינה עמהם". והדיוק בזה "מגלין רבו" הוא, שגם הרב נמצא שם במצב של גלות, "שכינתא בגלותא", וכמ"ש "בכל צרתם לו צר". ומכיון שכן, בודאי שגם בגלות "ה' שומרך וה' צלך". אלא שיש לנצל את הזמן להיות "בעל חכמה" כדבעי, ו"מבקשי'ה" – שנמצא תמיד בתנועה שאינו יכול לנוח ולשקוט עד שיגיע לדרגא נעלית יותר בלימוד התורה, שע"י לימוד התורה מתחזק הקשר עם הקב"ה.

Today’s Rambam states: “A student who was exiled to a city of refuge, his teacher is exiled with him, as the verse states, ‘and he shall live’ – do for him so that he shall live. The life of those who possess wisdom and those who seek, without Torah study, is considered like death.” The lesson is: exile in general (“because of our sins, we were exiled from our land”) is similar to exile in a city of refuge. We must know that “All your children are students of Hashem” – every Jew (even an “unworthy student is) a student of Hashem, and therefore, when a Jew is in exile, “his teacher is exiled with him.” Hashem is with us in exile! As the Sages taught, “Wherever they were exiled, the Divine Presence went with them.” The reason the expression used is “his teacher is exiled with him,” is because the teacher must not only be in the city of refuge but must also be there in a state of exile (“the Divine Presence in exile”), as it is written, “In all their pain, He is pained.” Since that is the case, it is certain that even in exile, “Hashem is your Guardian, Hashem is your shadow.” But we must utilize this time to properly be “those who possess wisdom and those who seek it” – constantly striving without rest to reach higher levels of Torah learning, which strengthens our bond with Hashem.
