Most Downloaded Episode: Why "Good Enough" and "Everyone Loves It" are Dangerous

Season 3 Episode 48 Published 2 years, 6 months ago
Description

This is our second most downloaded episode of all time!

Why do we think it's popular? Well, as an author you want people to love your work, we get it. You also put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into getting your book made and it's normal to have moments of, "it's good enough" because you just want to move on to the next thing. But good enough and assuming you've created the field of dreams can be a dangerous mindset to get into.

Two of the biggest pitfalls we see in author marketing are "good enough" and "everyone loves it"  and it's a real problem. Having Facebook followers isn't marketing, and they're not sales. Your alumni newsletter isn't marketing, and it's not sales. See the trend here? Marketing is a lot more than simply tapping into low hanging fruit. And nothing is good enough if you haven't done everything. If you haven't used a good editor, it's not good enough. If you haven't hired a good book cover designer, it's not good enough. See the other trend here?

Listen to our discussion about this to figure out the best ways to avoid these pitfalls and why our honesty is really going to set you and your book up for the best chances at success!
