Episode Details

Supernatural Season 5, Episode 13, The Song Remains the Same recap ☮️ Anna has gone rogue and traveled back to 1978 to kill John and Mary Winchester before Sam can ever be born, so Cas zaps the boys back in time to stop her, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. (And yes, the title is ANOTHER Led Zeppelin song.)

Anna (Julie McNiven) has escaped heaven's custody and has a plan to stop the Apocalypse: make sure Sam is never born. The boys convince a VERY reluctant Cas to send them back to 1978 to protect their parents, and the trip leaves him bleeding, unconscious, and tucked into the honeymoon suite. Back in the past, Sam and Dean meet young John (Matt Cohen) and Mary (Amy Gumenick), now newlyweds and expecting... and they're not the only ones who've come back for them.

Episode Highlights:

• Dean's ultra-cheesy dream (Dean, honey)
• Cas as a DeLorean without enough plutonium
• Young John and Mary, back from In the Beginning
• Dean's whole demeanor changing the moment John opens the door
• Sam's heartbreaking monologue to his dad (we teared up)
• Uriel's surprise return (in a different vessel)
• An archangel with a VERY familiar face
• The birth of Team Free Will

In the lore segment, we dig into the Archangel Michael: his only Old Testament appearance in the Book of Daniel, his argument with the devil over Moses' body, his battle with the dragon in Revelation, his flaming sword (a callback to Houses of the Holy), why he's the patron saint of soldiers, police, sailors, and paramedics, and how to tell him apart from St. George in art (wings vs. horse).

"Well. This is it. Team Free Will. One ex-blood junkie, one dropout with six bucks to his name and Mr. Comatose over there. Awesome." – Dean Winchester
