Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro affirmed that the face-to-face dialogue held with Guyana in St. Vincent and the Grenadines was a victory for diplomatic peace and the first geopolitical act after the consultative referendum of December 3 and thanked the mediation of CELAC and CARICOM to achieve the meeting between the two countries.
In Iceland a volcanic eruption was recorded in the Reykjanes peninsula after a 4.2 magnitude earthquake with epicenter in the city of Reykjavik, for which the authorities have ordered the evacuation of that area due to the high concentration of boiling lava, while the meteorological office in Iceland has warned that the volcanic instability facing the peninsula south of the country may extend for decades.
China recorded a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in northern Gansu province, leaving 127 people dead so far. The quake caused power outages, water shortages, destroyed roads and damaged buildings.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey the focus of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 km while the epicenter was located 37 km northwest of the city of Linxiang.
