Mike Smith, more commonly known in cricket as MJK Smith was a leading English cricketer of the 1950s,1960s and 1970s who captained England in 25 of his 50 Test matches. A remarkable sportsman Mike, now 90, also played a rugby union international for his country in 1956. He remains England’s last double international.

In this podcast, split into two parts, cricket writer Mike Thompson talks about his new book, ‘The Last Corinthian’ which covers the cricketing life of MJK Smith.

In Part 1 Mike Thompson focuses on MJK’s early career including stories of the many characters who played with him at Warwickshire CCC from Eric Hollies, the man who spoiled Don Bradman’s farewell Test match, Jim Stewart and Dennis Amiss. If you love cricketing nostalgia, this is the show for you. 

Part 2 with Mike Thompson, coming soon, will follow MJK’s Test career, and particularly his time as England captain in the 1960s.
