כל דבר טוב התלוי בזמן, כמו שבת ויו"ט, הנה כשעובר הזמן וצריכים לחכות עד שהזמן יגיע עוה"פ, מתעוררים בגעגועים לדבר. ותכלית הגעגועים היא לעורר אותו לעשות בפועל מעין אותם ענינים שאליהם הוא מתגעגע. הדבר בולט במוצאי ש"ק שאוכלים סעודת מלוה מלכה, "אסרו חג" לאחרי יו"ט, סעודת פורים שנמשכת דוקא לתוך הלילה של מוצאי פורים. ועפי"ז תמוה בנוגע לחנוכה, שלא מצינו ענין של "אסרו חג" או "סעודה" שנמשכת לתוך מוצאי חנוכה וכו', איך ירווה את געגועיו לחנוכה כשהוא עובר?! וי"ל בפשטות – ע"י לימוד התורה בעניני חנוכה! ע"ד הענין ד"ונשלמה פרים שפתינו", שע"י העסק בתורה בענין הקרבנות, אפי' ישראל (ולא כהן) בחו"ל בזה"ז, ה"ז כאילו מקריב אותם! כי התורה היא למעלה מזמן ומקום.

משיחת "זאת חנוכה" ה'תשל"ה

After a day like Shabbos or Yom Tov ends, we long for it until it comes around again; this longing is supposed to inspire a person to do things that reflect the special day for which he longs. As we find regarding Melaveh Malkah on Motza’ei Shabbos, Isru Chag after Yom Tov, and the Purim se’udah which continues after nightfall when Purim is already over. However, Chanukah has no Isru Chag or se’udah continuing after Chanukah ends; how then does one quench his longing for Chanukah? The answer is by studying Torah topics related to Chanukah! Like we say regarding korbanos, “we will render for bulls the offering of our lips” – by studying the halachos of the korbanos, one is considered to have brought a korban – even if he’s not a kohen, even if he’s outside of Eretz Yisrael, and even if it’s after the Beis Hamkdash is destroyed – because Torah transcends time and space.
