Περί (peri) in Greek is a preposition and it means ‘around’ οδός (odos) means 'way' or 'path'. In Ancient Greek the combination of the two meant going around in circles. But when the word came to Latin it was used figuratively and meant ‘time cycles’. In modern Greek both meanings are still in use. ΠΕΡΙΟΔΟΣ/PERIOD
