Singer–songwriter Taylor Swift was chosen as the 2023 Time Person of the Year because, according to the magazine, “in a divided world, where too many institutions are failing, [she] found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light.” Additionally, “So many have turned to [her] tales because they’ve been so disappointed by the storylines that emerge elsewhere in society.” And there are many tragic storylines emerging in the news today.
