Denial is selective reality. In some cases, denial keeps us blind to the things we don’t want to accept because our mind tell us we are not ready to handle them. In other times we know the truth, but we stay in denial because we don’t WANT to believe or accept it.
It can be frustrating to have a relationship with someone in denial. Especially when the ability to move on requires them to accept the truth about your feelings. You cannot use facts or reality to reason with them if they are committed to the lie they have created as their truth.
Denial in these cases isn’t them knowing the truth and pretending they don’t, it’s them failing to see it at all.
