In 2009, Dr. Flanagan founded Nextera Healthcare, introducing Colorado's pioneering Direct Primary Care (DPC) program. This innovative model offers affordable healthcare through monthly membership fees, granting patients unlimited access to office visits and virtual consultations. Dr. Flanagan's visionary leadership has earned him recognition as a top Value-Based Care Thinker in 2022 and one of the Top 20 Who's Who in Direct Primary Care in the US. His advocacy efforts led to the unanimous passage of DPC legislation in Colorado and Nebraska, and he was invited to discuss DPC at the White House.

Under Dr. Flanagan's dynamic leadership, Nextera Healthcare has expanded into a network of over 100 clinics across multiple states. North Vista Medical Center, a primary care hybrid practice with six facilities in northern Colorado, received acclaim as the "Best Business" in the Longmont Times-Call Reader's Choice Awards. Dr. Flanagan's commitment to accessible and cost-effective healthcare has had a significant impact on the industry, shaping its future in the United States.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Flanagan values family moments and enjoys outdoor fitness pursuits in the breathtaking landscapes of the Colorado Rockies.
