Missing 411 is a phenomenon involving the unexplained disappearances of people, mainly in national parks and forests of the United States and Canada. It was brought to mainstream attention by retired police detective David Paulides, who has written several books on the subject. Paulides documented over 1,600 cases of people missing under bizarre circumstances. Some commonalities between the instances include disappearances near granite rock formations, lousy weather setting in suddenly, and searches being impeded by tracking dogs unable to pick up scents. Many of those found alive or deceased were missing shoes and clothing that should have been on them.
