ממ"ש רש"י עה"פ [בחמישי דפ' חיי שרה] "ויביאה יצחק האהלה שרה אמו" "...שכל זמן ששרה קיימת הי' נר דלוק מערב שבת לע"ש . . ומשמתה פסקו ומשבאת רבקה חזרו" מובן שאצל נש"ק של אברהם אבינו לא הי' הענין ד"נר דלוק מע"ש לע"ש", וזה התחיל מחדש רק כאשר רבקה באה! ויובן זה עפ"י מאחז"ל עה"פ "אעשה לו עזר כנגדו" "במה האשה עוזרת לאדם . . אדם מביא חטים חטים כוסס (בתמי')", אלא האשה היא זו שמכינה את החטים להיות ראוי למאכל. היינו שהקב"ה נתן לכ"א עבודה המתאים לו/לה. תפקיד האיש ש"דרכו לכבוש" הוא להביא את החטים מהשדה, ולאשה, ש"כל כבודה בת מלך פנימה", נתן ה' את הכחות הזכות והאחריות להפוך את הבית עצמו להיות דירה לו ית'. ולכן, שפעולת הדלקת הנרות תחדור את גשמיות העולם כ"כ עד שהנרות ידלקו בגשמיות מע"ש לע"ש – שייכת יותר אל הנשים – שרה ואח"כ רבקה וכו'.

On the verse [in Chamishi of Parashas Chayei Sarah] “And Yitzchak brought her to the tent of his mother Sarah,” Rashi writes: “As long as Sarah was alive, a candle burned from Erev Shabbos to Erev Shabbos… when she died, they ceased, and when Rivkah arrived, they resumed.” This indicates that although Avraham Avinu surely lit candles after Sarah’s passing, it didn’t have this miraculous effect of lasting from week to week, which returned only when Rivkah arrived. We can understand this based on the Gemara’s explanation of the verse “I shall make him a helpmate opposite him”: “How does a woman help a man…Man brings wheat – does he chew wheat?” Rather, it is the woman who prepares the wheat and turns it into food. Meaning: Hashem gave everyone the role suitable for him or her. For men – “it is the way of a man to subdue” – to bring wheat from the field; for women – “all the honor of the King’s daughter is within” – Hashem gave women the ability and the merit and the responsibility to transform the house itself into a dwelling for Hashem. Therefore, for the candles to be lit in such a way that the light permeates the physicality of the world – to the extent that that they physically remain lit from Erev Shabbos to Erev Shabbos – is something that pertains to women etc.
