In this edition of The Flagship, a part of the Talk of Champions podcast network, Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) is joined by Rebel baseball hitting coach Mike Clement to update the Rebels’ progress over now three weeks of intrasquad scrimmages.

The Rebels have three scrimmages left, including a Sunday tilt against Memphis at 1 p.m. CT. The exhibition is free to fans to attend. Ole Miss last week whipped Jacksonville State the what was the team’s first scrimmage against outside competition this fall.

“I think it just solidified some thoughts from a coaching standpoint,” Clement said. “We’re now, from an offensive standpoint, 50 or 60 plate appearances into the fall, which is a lot. They’re going to end up with 75, some of them 80 plate appearances, which is a huge sample size for the fall.

“The guys we’ve already talked about have flourished. We have some pretty good position battles going on. We probably have 11 hitters I really like, and that’s a good thing. That’s much better than eight and trying to fill in a spot.”
