Good morning and happy Sunday! Welcome to our December 15th, 2019 service from La Jolla Presbyterian Church.

Today is the third week of Advent, and the third week of our Advert Sermon series called, Making Room, a look at the Christmas story through the lens of hospitality, we’re called to make room for others, just as Christ makes room for us. Rev. Kevin Finch is preaching, Kevin served as a pastor for many years, but is now the founder and director of Big Table, a non-profit created to build community and provide care for the high-need, low-visibility restaurant and hospitality industry. Kevin’s sermon is titled, “How to Get Out of the Boat (And Why Risk It)” it’s a look at Matthew chapter 14, verses 22-33, it’s not a typical Advent text, but a fresh look at Jesus walking on water and inviting Peter out. The annual Christmas concerts are this afternoon, Sunday, December 15th, at 4 and 7pm. The full Chancel choir, along with a professional orchestra, children and bell choirs will be presenting a program titled, “Hallelujah!” The featured piece will be the Christmas portions of Handel’s Messiah, plus anthems and carols of the season. We are hosting a family movie night, and all ages are welcome! We are showing The Grinch this Wednesday, Dec. 18th, in Fellowship Hall, 5pm dinner, 5:30-6:50pm movie. Pizza, Popcorn & Movie for only $5/pp or $20/family. Please purchase your tickets soon online at ljpres.events/movie. We will be collecting canned food for Presbyterian Urban Ministries.
