Suzanne and Barry Morphew: Unraveling a Mystery of Marriage and Murder.

Episode 180 Published 3 years ago
Description

On Mother’s Day 2020, forty-nine-year-old Suzanne Morphew vanished from her Colorado home. Her bicycle was discovered near a steep ravine, leading investigators and the public to wonder whether she had been injured, abducted, or deliberately made to disappear.

Suspicion soon fell on Suzanne’s husband, Barry Morphew, as investigators uncovered a marriage in crisis, conflicting accounts, unusual cellphone activity, and evidence prosecutors believed contradicted his version of events. Barry was charged with Suzanne’s presumed murder in 2021, but the case collapsed before trial amid serious questions about the prosecution’s handling of evidence.

Then, more than three years after Suzanne disappeared, her remains were discovered in a shallow grave nearly fifty miles from her home. An autopsy ruled her death a homicide and detected a powerful combination of animal tranquilizers in her system—substances prosecutors allege Barry had access to. In June 2025, a grand jury indicted him again for first-degree murder. Barry Morphew has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence as the case moves toward trial.

This is the disappearance and death of Suzanne Morphew—a case of a crumbling marriage, disputed evidence, prosecutorial mistakes, and a mystery that refused to remain buried.
