Description
Supernatural Season 4, Episode 14, Sex and Violence recap 💑 (Yes, that's the real title. LA thought we made this one up too.) Loving husbands are suddenly killing their wives, every one of them was seeing a perfect stripper, and the boys team up with an FBI agent (Jim Parrack, Hoyt from True Blood) to hunt a siren, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
The episode opens with a wife tenderizing a steak and a husband who suddenly isn't himself, and it ends with our 20th blood splooge of the series all over their wedding picture. The boys trace a string of murders back to a strip club, where each husband met a woman who seemed absolutely perfect for him. While Sam gets cozy with a flirty, hungover local doctor (Maite Schwartz), Dean hits the strip club with an FBI agent named Nick, and he's not happy about splitting up. Something is getting into the brothers' heads, and Bobby might be the only one who can save them from each other.
Episode Highlights:
- The doctor flirting her butt off with Sam
- Jim Parrack's subtle, effective performance as Agent Nick
- Every victim describing their stripper as perfect (red flag!)
- Strippers named Jasmine, Belle, Aurora, and Ariel (Disney princesses, anyone?)
- Bobby's wall of phones, each labeled with a different fake FBI supervisor
- The brothers turning on each other, and the cutting things they say (especially Sam!)
- Sam and Dean's brutal fistfight (and the emergency axe)
- Bobby saving the day, no questions asked, and with sodas because they're driving
- Charles Beeson's direction (the guy behind Playthings and Roadkill!)
In the lore segment, we dig into sirens of Greek mythology (spoiler: they were half bird, not half fish): Odysseus plugging his crew's ears with wax in Homer's Odyssey, Orpheus out-singing the sirens to save the Argonauts, and Ovid's version in Metamorphoses, where the sirens were Persephone's companions who asked for wings to search for her.
"Fine. I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing it for the girls." – Dean Winchester
