21. Why Restricting "Forbidden" Foods Fuels Emotional Eating (and How to Stop)

Season 1 Episode 21 Published 3 years ago
Description

Welcome to Episode 21 of the Emotional Eats Podcast!

In this episode, I jump into the complex realm of managing certain foods in your home.  I call them forbidden foods.  Those are the foods you feel have control over you and you wish you did not have them around to tempt you.

Many of us have those foods we consider off-limits, and the battle to resist them can be challenging.  What if you didn't have to resist them?   I want to change your mind about those foods and help you have balance over deprivation.

This episode aims to offer insights into handling this situation and allowing you to strike a balance that works for you.  I ask you to explore shifting your mindset to give yourself permission, the power of mindful consumption, the importance of nutrient-dense choices, and the impact on blood sugar levels.

I also share about identifying emotional triggers and breaking patterns that lead to overindulgence without actually enjoying your food. I emphasize the significance of self-compassion and curiosity when navigating these food-related challenges.

Tune in to discover strategies for creating a healthier relationship with these "forbidden" foods during the upcoming holiday season and beyond.  Abstinence, willpower and discipline are not required.

00:03  Kim's story about her favorite food.

03:48  How trying not to think of forbidden foods makes us think more about them.

08:31  How to give yourself permission to eat.
