הטעם על ההפטורה ב[יום א' ד]ר"ה הוא כי בר"ה נפקדה חנה. אבל מובן שיש בזה גם הוראה עיקרית לזמננו, ולכל השנה. בהפטורה מסופר אודות גודל ההפלאה באופן העלי' לרגל לשילה של בעלה אלקנה ובני-בתו, אבל כאשר נולד שמואל סירבה חנה להצטרף לאלקנה בעלה בעלייתו לרגל כדי לישאר בבית עם שמואל "עד יגמל הנער" ורק אז תבוא אִתּוֹ לשילה. מובן שחנה, שהיתה בעצמה נביאה, הבינה את גודל הענין של עלי' לרגל ש"כשם שבא לראות כך בא ליראות" וכו' בכלל ושל בעלה בפרט, ולאידך – היתה יכולה לקחת את שמואל אִתָּה ולדאוג שיהיו לה משרתים ומניקות שהנסיעה לא תזיק לילד וכו', או להשאיר את שמואל בבית עם "בייבי-סיטער"... מספרת ההפטורה: לא! חנה ויתרה על העלי' לשילה שנתיים כדי לישאר בעצמה בבית עם בנה ולגדל אותו בצורה הטובה ביותר! ואלקנה הסכים לדעתה וזה נכתב בתורה! ועי"ז דוקא זכתה להביא את שמואל לשילה אחרי השנתיים ולומר "אל הנער הזה התפללתי"! The reason we read the Haftorah on the first day of Rosh Hashana is because Chana was remembered on Rosh Hashana. Obviously, there’s a fundamental lesson for our times, and for the entire year. The Haftorah relates how Elkana would come to Shiloh with his whole family and with great fanfare, but when Shmuel was born, Chana refused to join Elkana on the trip, so that she could remain home with Shmuel “until the child is weaned.” Obviously, Chana, who was a neviah, appreciated the greatness of going to Shiloh when “to see and be seen” etc., and moreover, Elkana could have hired servants to take care of the child on the journey etc., or Chana could have left Shmuel with a “babysitter”… But the Haftorah says no! Chana gave up going to Shiloh for two years to take care of her son personally, and to be able to do so in the best manner! And Elkana agreed with her approach, and it is part of Torah. And in this way she merited to bring Shmuel to Shiloh after two years and say, “For this child did I pray.” [To be continued.]
