The Penn State football team takes on Illinois this weekend in their first road game of the 2023 season this Saturday. Today on the BWI Live Show, Sean Fitz and Nate Bauer get you ready with the official game preview for the week. They'll also discuss thoughts from open practice and what they heard from James Franklin yesterday evening.

Penn State practice update

Each week, Penn State football hosts the media for a look inside practice on Wednesdays. Fitz and Bauer will share their insights from what they saw and, more importantly, who they saw. Several Nittany Lions defenders, including Coziah Izzard, Amin Vanover, and Daequan Hardy, were back at practice this week. What does that mean for their chances to play on Saturday? We'll discuss the potential impact along the defensive line. For his part, Franklin wasn't ready to give up any insight.

"We'll see. We'll see how it all plays out. Not sure. I can't really speak on it yet," he said after practice.

"Amin I've been very impressed with his maturity and growth over the last couple of years," Franklin said. "He's been really good. Hardy, I would say the same thing. Coziah's had so some bumps and bruises as well, that have factored into that too. But yeah, all three of them have handled it well so far."

Speaking of Franklin, Bauer, and Fitz will discuss the comments Franklin made after practice in his final conversation with the media before the game on Satuday. Bauer is an expert on reading between the lines with the Penn State head coach.

Illinois game preview

Finally, Bauer and Fitz will preview the upcoming game between Penn State and Illinois. They'll discuss the reverberations between 2021 and 2023, plus give their thoughts on what they know about the Illini this year. Will Illinois try to play the aggressive style of defense that hasn't translated the same way as it did last year? They'll close out the preview with a score prediction.
